Hey Guys, Recently one of my friend asked me how a USB drive can be disabled on a particular computer. So today I’m posting about To disable the access to a USB port, in windows XP, Vista and Windows 10 , 8.1, 7. For disabling USB access follow the steps and disable. And also check how to re-enable after disabling.

Steps to disable a USB port:

Step 1. Click Start, and then click Run.
Step 2. Type regedit, and then click OK. (Or simply open registry)
Step 3. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesUsbStor

Step 4. In the right pane, double-click Start.
Step 5. In the Value data box, change its value to 4, which was 3 and then click OK

Steps to re-enable a disabled USB port:

Step 1. Click Start, and then click Run.
Step 2. Type regedit, and then click OK. (Or simply open registry)
Step 3. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesUsbStor

Step 4. In the right pane, double-click Start.
Step 5. In the Value data box, change its value to 3, which you changed to 4 to disable the USB drive and then click OK.
Step 6. Quit Registry Editor.

  • Note
Now, whenever you attach a USB device that time windows will not detect, and you’ll not shown in My computer. However, disabling USB port also disables the USB keyboard, Mouse, Printer, Webcam, Scanner and something you connect with USB port.
